They figured out Luke—along with Bruce—were at the Davis, an old boutique hotel downtown. It was a beautiful place, full of luxury suites and old Southern charm. Nick hated it, personally, but a lot of out-of-town travelers raved about it and politicians from both sides of the aisle had plenty of fundraisers there.
Because politicians held fundraisers there, Nick knew the place well. The person running the front desk refused to give him or Evan any information about guests, although she did offer to call up to a room for them. She was right in her refusal, however much it pissed Nick off. She didn’t know him, and she had to keep guest safety in mind.
Nick counted to ten and asked to speak to Mr. Ludlow, the manager. He’d known Ludlow for years, ever since he’d been Blake’s campaign manager. The poor woman’s eyes widened, but she called Ludlow right away and asked him to come and address a “guest safety issue.”
