The Proposal

“The nurse left a menu. She said all I have to do is call down to the cafeteria and they’ll bring something up but I haven’t been hungry. Mom brought me coffee when she came in this morning.”


“Then no wonder you can’t sleep. Coffee is the last thing you need when you’re worried and need to relax.”


“I’ll call for something in a little while. Are you hungry? Can I get you anything?”


“No, dear, we’re fine. I’m just worried about you.”


Sonny smiled. It felt good to have Mycah’s family care for her. She wouldn’t have problems with her in-laws. “l promise I’ll get something soon.”


“It was horrible. I saw it going to happen and I couldn’t get the words out quick enough to warn her.”


“How did it happen?” Peleo, Mycah’s father asked. He had the feeling that Sonny’s mind was all over the place and they needed to keep her on track.
