“I fear that she wasted her egg with me. That I’ve failed her. That I’ve failed all of you.”
“You haven’t failed her or anyone. You haven’t failed me. Alec, take heart. We’ll know soon. Whether we have one egg or a hundred, we have each other. Our nest is strong. We are strong.”
“Aye,” Alec sighed, lying.
“Now prove to me how strong you are,” Tuxtax growled, claiming his soulmate’s lips.18
Alec awoke safe and warm. For a long while he rested contentedly in his soulmate’s arms, pressing his ear against the giant were-griffin’s chest and surrounding himself in the symphony of heartrate, breath, and purr.
After a long while, however, Alec grew restless. Untangling himself from his mate’s limbs, he rose from their nest and stretched with a groan.
“Mmmrrrf? Why on earth are you awake so damn early?” Tuxtax asked grouchily.
