A smile tugged at his lips. Rob believed in him. Hard to believe the same man saved him twice.
Making his way to Rob’s office to drop off some forms and to ask whether anything else needed doing before the end of the day, he struggled to dispatch the grin stretching his lips wide. What would Rob think if he marched in like the Cheshire cat? He didn’t want to appear like a maniac, but couldn’t help feeling deliriously happy, a feeling he wanted to share.
Lee loved to smile at Rob and have him return the grin. Not the cheesy grin that distorted his expression, but a happy, loving smile that said they were going home together. A fantasy best shoved aside. Sure, they shared the same space, but they weren’t together, and even that wouldn’t last forever. Thinking that way would break his heart, and one thing Lee didn’t want to do was lose Rob’s friendship. Rob, even unknowingly, had been such a large part of his life; Lee owed him respect.
