Chapter 30

Whatever the reason, the kids seemed more vulnerable than usual, and Howard didn’t plan to let whatever may or may not be happening with him and Jason mess them up. God knows the divorce, or whatever it was they had done, had probably been hardest on the kids most of all. The fact that Janey and James had come out of it at least appearing to be relatively unscathed, was something Howard would be eternally grateful for, and there was no way he was going to change that. Whatever was or was not going to happen with Jason was going to be thought out with the kids coming first. He was sure Jason would agree with him on that, but Howard knew that he would need to remind himself of that as he felt Jason’s arm around him.

Howard relaxed into it again. After all, the movie was only about half-way done, and if he sat there stiffly for the rest of it, he would probably have an aching back by the time it was over. Anyway, it didn’t hurt anything. Did it?
