Chapter 37

James nodded and kissed Howard on the cheek. Jason was sure that like any college student, James didn’t mind a little extra money in his pocket, and from the look of that wad of bills, James would have play money for months. Jason knew that Howard was probably overcompensating for what he believed the children were now going through, but he wished his own parents had been so generous.

After they walked James to the car and waved as he went by, Jason waited for Howard’s next instructions, knowing that he planned days like this to the minute.

“Janey, we should probably get going soon,” Howard said. “You know how beltway traffic can be and God only knows what we’ll hit making our way from here to the beltway. Everyone wants to come back and forth from Three Rivers on spring weekends.”
