Chapter 47

“Howard has often told me about your culinary skills, and although I hope you’ll invite Gene and I for one of your fabulous breakfasts, I’ve heard that dinner was not your thing. I saw what was in your basket and realized how ambitious it was. I thought I better check on you. That’s also why I made a casserole. If your meal had turned out well, you could always freeze it and save it for another night.”

“You are a very wise woman,” Jason said.

“And a little protective of the people I care for,” Marjorie said. “I know you’re up to something, Jason. I just get a feeling that it might not be a bad thing. Make sure you don’t hurt him. Last time, Gene wouldn’t let me take a side, but know that if anything happens this time, I will, and you won’t like the side I take, Jason.”

“Don’t worry, Marjorie. The last thing I want to do is hurt him, and after seeing what you can do to a house, I would never put myself in a position to see what you could do to me.”
