“I don’t know,” he said.

“What do you mean you don’t know?” Elaine looked up. “You of all people should know who is and isn’t alpha material. It’s the only thing an omega is good for. It is as much a part of your blood as being alpha was a part of Eric’s blood. Between the three families, the pack has always had an alpha to lead it. An alpha would not have been able to resist the opportunity of the challenge. One of them must be our next alpha. You will tell me which candidate is a true alpha or I will reveal your little secret.”

“No, you can’t.” Josh felt his desperation spike, then remembered that was exactly the reaction Elaine was looking for. She was counting on his fear to get what she wanted from him. Elaine had just as much, if not more, to lose and Josh had everything to gain. “How exactly am I supposed to identify the pack’s next alpha?”

“How did you identify Stephanie?”
