Chapter 56

He could already feel the heat rising to his cheeks.

Gavin reached past him for the pot of coffee, and his proximity sent Josh’s senses on a roller coaster ride. The nearer Gavin was, the harder Josh found it to think coherently. Instead, he focused on Andrea’s coffee. How many spoons of sugar had he already added? He scooped another one.

“That’s going to be pretty sweet, don’t you think?” Gavin smiled and took a sip from his cup. “If it isn’t black, my body doesn’t acknowledge the caffeine.”

“I’m the same way,” Josh said and tried to get his stupid grin under control. “This is for a friend.”

Just saying the word felt awkward, but that was what Andrea was. When Josh motioned toward the table he had already claimed, Andrea was sitting there giving their order to the waitress.

“I see,” Gavin said, and nudged him. “You follow her into the woods?”

“Yes,” Josh said, then got the underlying implication in Gavin’s words. “Oh, no. It’s not like that. We aren’t involved or anything.”
