Chapter 57

“A couple of years ago, I had a gallery showing in Seattle.” Andrea spoke between small bites of her food.

“The muse had just refused to reveal herself. I’m so glad Josh lives in such a beautiful corner of the country. It’s no Rockies, but there’s a comfortable wildness about Wolf’s Creek. Wild, but on the edge of civilization.”

Gavin’s eyes rarely left Andrea as she rambled on.

Josh felt invisible.

“That’s poetic.” Gavin finished the last sip of his coffee that had long since gone cold. “I’d like to hear more about your art, maybe see a piece.”

“Oh, no,” Andrea said in mock humility. “I never show anyone my work until it’s finished. Not even Josh.”

Gavin stood to leave.

“Maybe dinner then?” Gavin took out a small notepad and wrote on it before tearing off a piece of paper and handing it to her.

She looked a little taken aback by his offer.

“Yeah, Josh and I could probably swing a meal.”

“See you soon.” Gavin tipped his hat toward Andrea and then Josh before leaving.
