“She’s not that type of girl.” Josh pushed past him.

“She doesn’t like commitment.”

“Who says I’m looking for commitment?” Gavin smiled, then his mood grew serious. “I don’t poach, and I don’t share.”

There was a hint of possessiveness in his words that surprised Josh. They carried within them a weight that conjured up images of bodily violence if they were contradicted. Josh shuddered at the unspoken threat and tried to shake off his unease. Somehow he had pissed off Gavin, and now his instincts were screaming at him to appease him. It made no sense. The only time he’d ever had that kind of reaction was around the more dominant members of the pack, especially Silverbane. The need to please Gavin, even at the cost of his own dignity gripped him.
