Matthew and Tyrone slowed their advance. Many of the others drew back, looking at each other in apparent confusion. Low growls and yowls passed through the group.


“You must help Gavin defeat Lukar.” Josh felt his body reverberate with his desperation. “Silverbane’s blood flows through each of you. You have chosen to foreswear the hunger for human flesh cursed upon you.


“Look out!” Andrea shoved Josh to the ground. He barely caught the shadow of Terrence’s wolf form leaping over them both.


He watched in horror and gratefulness as the pack charged toward Lukar and Gavin. The two were locked in a struggle, oblivious to what was going on around them. Pinned beneath Lukar, Gavin gave out a terrifying howl of pain. Josh saw the blood pooling under him.


“I will eat you alive,” Lukar said in triumph, before he lunged. His demonic teeth ripped into Gavin’s left arm and tore at the flesh.


“Help him!” Josh screamed. The words lingered in the air.
