Chapter 9

Renée smirked as she continued slicing tomatoes for a combination of grilled cheese and BLT sandwiches. She was both more irritated than she felt she had a right to be and yet was in better spirits than she’d been since Jenny had come back into her life. Part of it was quite simple: she was helping to prepare dinner which meant it wouldn’t be another night of frozen pizza popped into the oven or lukewarm pizza brought home and warmed in the same.

And, yes, she was still glowing from the way Jenny had brought her tea. Jenny made the best tea, strong as coffee and black as sin. It was proper English tea and nothing Renée had sampled on this side of the Pond came close.

“What’s that smile for?” Conchetta asked as she turned the bacon.
