Jenny was whistling a bouncy little tune as she entered the archives, but immediately quit it when she saw Mrs. Partridge frowning at her. “Sorry,” she said apologetically. “I just…forgot where I was.”

“You’re in a good mood,” the head archivist noted.

Yes. Yes, she was. Jenny smiled.

“And you’re carrying quite a burden. See to it you don’t put any of that near my computers. On one of the empty tables behind them is fine, but not near the keyboards.”

Jenny nodded. “I’ll be careful, and I won’t put the teacups or the pot on the computer tables.” She glanced at the clock over the main desk. “Is Renée, er, Miss Beauchamp, here?”

“She’s always punctual. I believe she’s shelving books in the east quadrant.”

Jenny didn’t know where that was, but she did know it might give her time to set up. “Thank you,” she said as she headed toward the computer terminals buried in the stacks.
