Chapter 16

“I guess because my father raised me on tales of dragons. Not the really romantic stuff but true stories about his encounters with them.”

“I thought your father worked as a tracker.”

“He did. But that meant he had to bring in all sorts of magical creatures. Including dragons who were eating humans.”

“And that made you want to study them instead of running in the other direction?”

“Study them, not fight them,” Renée pointed out. Then she changed the subject. “You’re hot when you’re angry.”

Jenny flushed. “Thanks, I guess.”

“No, really,” Renée said as she stepped around the bucket. “It was absolutely stirring to see you taking him on.” And she moved into Jenny’s space. And kissed her.

Jenny had never thought Renée would be the pursuer. She had changed so damn much in the last ten years. But Jenny’s surprise didn’t stop her from wrapping her arms around Renée and kissing her back.
