“I don’t mind.” And damn it if he didn’t sound sincere.
“Could I just…Renée and I…We need to talk.” When a lie wouldn’t suffice, the truth would have to do.
“Are you going to bully my intern?” he asked, a slight edge in his voice.
She laughed outright. “I’m not the one with seniority so high it’s practically in the sky.”
He glanced away from her and she realized she’d been feeling someone looking at her for the last couple of seconds. It had gone unacknowledged in her forebrain because she was so damned furious.
Renée stood there, looking at them with a worried frown. After a moment, she said, “Agent Tavery, Jenny and I…She won’t bully me. I promise.”
He nodded. “Please help her continue to clean up. I’ll see you back when you’re done.” And he ghosted out of the room, moving so swiftly and silently that he more resembled one of the fae than a dragon.
Renée asked, “Where are the gloves?”
