The most pertinent information, at least to Jenny’s way of thinking, was that Renée hadn’t wanted to go into SearchLight at first because she was angry with all magical creatures.
“And before you say anything,” she interrupted herself to address Jenny, “That might seem like an extreme reaction. But first, I was nineteen. Second, I was heartbroken. Third, from my point of view, magical creatures had kept us apart. I mean, I didn’t know for sure that you dumped me because of your family, but I must have had an inkling. I mean, I couldn’t come up with any other ideas besides your parents finally convinced you.”
“Are you still angry with me?”
A little,” Renée confessed. “But mostly I understand. You were nineteen too and your family’s important to you. What are they doing now that you’re at SearchLight? Or doesn’t interacting with humans on that level count?”
