Chapter 65

“This letter is legal notice that if the vehicle specified herein is not retrieved within thirty days, it will be destroyed or sold at auction,” he read aloud. “Letters have been going to the bar, apparently.” He shook the latest one in my face. “If we hadn’t gotten in touch with the tow yard last week, J…”

“J?” I made the sound, like Finn had. “So the name starts with J?”

“I’m not telling.”

“Or is it G,” I asked, “like gem or German?”

“Maybe.”

“Hmm. Jellybean. They come in yellow.”

“Nope.”

“Jolly Yellow Giant. That has a J and a G.” They sounded alike, though I’d imagined different letters.

“No, Russel.”

“Give me a minute,” I said. “I’ll get it. In the meantime, we have the warning. We have the money. We have an hour to get there before they close, so…”

“Let’s go get the bus to go get the bus?” Finn asked.

“You know it.”
