Chapter 18

Pizza was a rare treat and Kitty loved it. Zach had said he wasn’t looking for a relationship. Maybe his niece felt as lonely as Kitty often did, complaining of the lack of children her age in the neighborhood. He was wavering. It was the pizza that tipped the scale—he so didn’t want to make supper tonight and the thought of doing grocery shopping without a four year old, sealed the deal.

“Are you sure? One little girl may be okay, two are a handful.”

“My brother has three boys and when he and my sister-in-law come to visit Vince and Sandy disappear while I get babysitting duties. Boys are worse. With Caroline, all I have to do is pretend to drink tea.” Zach laughed. “Can you imagine my big hands holding a doll-sized teacup? They should meet anyway. Gloria was going to call you about the speech therapist. She thought she could pick Kitty up from day care and take her along with Caroline, but you’ll have to sign a permission slip.”
