Chapter 19

“I’m not sleeping with him. I just want to help him out. He tries so hard. He’s very proud and accepts very little help, yet is absolutely flabbergasted when someone gives it to him.”

Gloria began to hum.

“Stop that humming. I’m serious here. Truly, his sister seems to have a speech problem, it may have been a psychological reaction to her parents’ death or maybe it’s something else. She’s very bright, reads at a third grade level, knows all her numbers, and can do simple addition and some subtraction so I don’t think it’s a matter of intelligence. When Jason makes her repeat her words, she gets them right. That’s what makes me think it’s psychological. They live on Oakhurst Road. You have to pass their cross street every time you take Caroline to speech therapy. Maybe you could take Kitty along with her once the speech therapist sees her with Jason?” His eyes pled with his sister to say yes.

“And if she needs a psychologist instead of a speech therapist?”
