Chapter 29

“You need to get one to establish credit. Eventually you’re going to want a new car and you’ll need a loan. You won’t be able to get one until you establish credit or the one you get will have outrageous interest if you don’t have a credit history. I’ll go with you and cosign for the mortgage if necessary, but you need to apply for a credit card. Try American Express. They make you pay the whole balance at the end of the month, that way you’re not tempted to overspend. Not that you would. You’re the most responsible person I know.”

“You really think I’ll need someone to cosign? After all, the house is paid for they can use that as collateral.” Jason’s face scrunched up in alarm.

“Since Sandy, banks have been very careful about giving out mortgages here along the shore. You’re not that close to the water but the ocean is one town east in Deal. You’re lucky you didn’t sustain a lot of damage when Sandy came through.”
