I hope I’m not showing my hand too soon but damn it, he needs my help now and if he gets that mortgage, he’ll worry himself to death. The roof is the last straw. I can’t be in love with him and not help. Did I just use the “L” word? I guess I did. I’ve been thinking it, just too scared to say it out loud.

Jason looked at him strangely but followed him into the back office. “I remember getting the T-shirts here the night we met.”

“Yeah, I remember it, too. Back then I wouldn’t have said what I’m about to say now. I didn’t know you then. We started out on the wrong foot and I’ve been trying to convince you that I’m a stand-up guy since the first Sunday we went out with Kitty and Bobby.” Jason had a wide-eyed look on his face.
