Chapter 55

“They look on you as their real grandmother, especially Jason who lost all of his grandparents so tragically. Come live with us. You’ll have your own space, but not ever be alone.”

“This doesn’t take much thought. I’m not too old, only sixty-five, and people are viable well into their eighties nowadays. Maybe I’ll be able to dance at her wedding.” She patted him on the cheek. “You’re a good boy, not scoundrel material at all. I’ll do it.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Schwartz.”

“Now about Kitty, she will be able to eat normal meals once she gets home,” Mrs. Schwartz said. “But she has to pass gas and stool first. Right now she can only have broth, Jell-O, and apple juice, clear liquids, all. But once she passes gas or stool she can go back on a regular diet and they let her come home soon after that.”

“We’ll need you Mrs. Schwartz as our island of calm. Jason is a mess and so am I. We almost lost her.” Zach was ready to cry.
