Chapter 27

“Then I can speak to you. He has a concussion. I’m going to keep him here overnight to monitor his condition. Someone needs to get back there and stay with him. I’m about to tell him about his folks.”

Keith ran to the ER’s inner doors; the receptionist let him inside. He heard Bobby asking the nurse, “Where are my parents? They were with me in the car?”

Keith ran up to the side of the bed. Bobby’s eyes opened wide, and his mouth turned to the letter O.

“I’m sorry they bothered you. I never thought they would have to call you. I put your name there to pretend you were mine. My parents were first on the list.” Keith saw Bobby was babbling. He was out of it. He wouldn’t have said that if he weren’t. Bobby kept his secrets very well.

Keith examined the wound on his head still sluggishly bleeding despite the stitches. “You’re no bother, baby, ever.” Keith stroked Bobby’s cheek. Jason and Zach followed Keith into the room.
