Chapter 48

I wish I could go back to that morning before Kitty got sick. I’d tell him I loved him. I already knew I did; I was too much of a coward to say so. I let Jay trash-talk me into using my age as an excuse not to get hurt again. If I had told him I loved him then, we would have bought the wine together with his parents and Bobby and his parents would all be healthy and happy.

Keith stared down at Bobby’s face. There are no do-overs in life. I can’t go back. I have to help him with the tools I’m given.

Bobby opened his eyes. “Come down next to me. I want you to hold me like you did before all of this happened.

Keith kissed the top of his head and said, “Gladly.”

Friday, January 9th

Greg noticed Bobby’s leg twitching; he was upset. Keith stood. “I’m going out to the waiting room to give you some privacy, baby. That means you can talk about me behind my back.” Bobby chuckled, and the leg stopped moving.

Keith left, and Bobby said, “I’m thinking about selling the house…”
