Chapter 13

Reggie forgot himself. “No, baby, I won’t let that happen. You’ve got friends now. You’ll never have to handle anything like this alone again.”

The Asbury Park detective spoke, “Billy Cruz has been out of prison for thirty days and already we’ve had a rash of armed hold-ups. They’ve taken out two payday cash operations in Asbury Park, one in Long Branch, and a convenience store in Wayside.”

“Are you sure it’s Billy?”

“We think it’s Cruz and an accomplice. The MO is the same as Cruz used before prison. However, in jail he refined his technique,” Compton said with sarcasm. “We need probable cause for an arrest or a search warrant. I’d tell you to get a restraining order to protect yourself. However, with Cruz, you might as well write it on toilet paper because he’ll wipe his ass with it and do what he pleases.”

“How do they do it?” Reggie asked.
