Chapter 19

“You realize of course that bringing food over here is like carrying a bucket of seawater and throwing it into the Atlantic. Edith, Marla and Olivia have all been cooking for days.”

“This isn’t food, it’s dessert and you can always freeze the leftovers and give us some to take home. That way Mark will eat something this week besides dinner at the club. My original question…do you think Marla or Olivia know someone who could come in during the day, clean and make breakfast for me, lunch for Mark, and when he starts school, dinner during the week? He’ll still want to work weekends.”

“I’ll check with Marla as soon as I get off the phone. We should have someone lined up by the beginning of next week. Is that fast enough?”

“I guess. In the meantime, I’ll make sandwiches for him for lunch.” Reggie sighed.

Bobby changed the subject. “I gather Mark is coming to dinner.”

“Is that a problem?” Reggie asked, his voice indicating his worry.
