Chapter 26

“You promised to take care of me if I got sick or hurt.” Reggie frowned.

“But I was the one who caused you to get hurt.”

“No, Jay and Billy shot me and would have killed the both of us if they could have managed to do it. We’re alive and safe because we were together.”

“You’ll be out of work for at least seven weeks and have to have physical therapy for three months, all because of me. I refuse to see you hurt again.” Mark got stubborn.

“You spoke to the doctor.”

Mark nodded his head.

“Baby, all this is, is an inconvenience. If you were staying in the efficiency, you’d be dead and that I couldn’t live with. Until this is over, you’re going to stay with me here and at the house in my bed where you belong.”

Before Mark could answer, Bobby came in the room. “Jason and Zach went home. Keith and I came, we’re in the waiting room. Bert wants to come in to say goodbye. He has to go back to Cornell.”

“Let him come in. What day is it?”

“It’s Wednesday evening,” Bobby answered.
