December 5

“Day Zero”

In stem cell transplant speak, today was day zero, the day Genevieve received her autologous transplant. This was generally a better option than an allogeneic transplant where she would receive stem cells from a donor. Dr. Mahoney had told Gray that in an allogenic transplant, her body could possibly reject the transplant, whereas in the autologous stem cell transplant, Genevieve received her own stem cells cleaned of cancer and it was more likely to take without a problem.
