“Are you feeling down today?” Harris asked, his hyper-sensitive antennae obviously picking up on something. “Lonely?”

He missed Chimera. Had yet to put away her mat and leash. When Harris was at work, Jude would sometimes sit with her favorite badly torn up chew toy in his hands and cry his heart out for a few minutes. He hadn’t cried in years and now whenever the tears came, he let them. It helped with the anxiety. The turmoil in his gut.

“I know everything seems to be at a standstill right now,” Harris said, his rich voice full of warmth and affection. “But we have that meeting Friday and things are gonna take off from there, I promise.” He let out a sharp breath. “I wish I could be there with you this week, but I have all these accounts to—”
