Chapter 68

There Jude was, pulling up in their long, bumpy driveway.

Harris got to his feet and dusted his blue jeans off. He’d taken up the habit of working in jeans and wearing Jude’s checkered shirts. His designer clothes were still hanging in plastic bags in their closet. “Hey, babe,” he greeted Jude, walking up to him.

Jude shut the car door and petted Artemis, who’d come running up to him. She was definitely his dog. Slept at his feet. Followed him everywhere. Whined when he left. “I know. I know.” Jude laughed, crouching down to let Artemis lick his face. “You missed me. I missed you, too.”

“Wow, lucky girl.” Harris was anxious. Could hardly wait any longer.

Julian rose and cracked a smile. “How are you?”

Harris’s throat was tight. “Good. Good. Just finished watering everything and I was sitting here, waiting for you.”

“Did you work today?” Jude asked, taking Harris’s arm and leading him to the steps. “Any luck with the perfume?”
