Chapter 45

“We were just in time. A minute later and there would have been an accident. I should never have fallen asleep without walking him. He was such a good boy.” Danny bent back down and gave Widget a hug.

“Don’t worry, baby. It was my fault that we fell asleep but I couldn’t resist you.”

“Would you like to play ball with Widget while I make us supper? I defrosted some chicken thighs to make fried chicken. Since I saw no breasts in the fridge, I assume you like dark meat like I do.” Danny stuck his head in the refrigerator and pulled out the package of twelve thighs.

“You’re right,” Gary’s eyes twinkled, “breasts do absolutely nothing for me. I’ll take the Frisbee. My shoulder is a little sore today.”

Danny’s eyes went wide. “Don’t hurt yourself to play with the dog.”

“If I make a motion to pitch, then the pain comes back. Flicking my wrist to throw a Frisbee is a different motion and won’t hurt me.” Gary took the Frisbee from the mudroom and went out to play.
