“You’re not going to lose both of us.”

She folded her arms. Her pale face made her eyes darker, but they had a resolute light. Even if Jesse wanted to convince her not to do this, he wouldn’t get anywhere. Her mind was made up, and that was that.


“Nothing is going to happen to me.”


“I doknow that. You would never let anything happen to me. I trust Michelle. I trust you, without exception. Completely. I know that I’m safe.”


“I don’t know if I can do this without him.”


“Oh, Jesse…” She hugged him from behind, her cheek pressed to his back, her arms around his waist. “He’s not going to stay mad forever.”
