“Are we really going to let her walk away?” she hissed.
“You’re the one who wanted to come down here,” he reminded. “Now that we have, what option do we have?”
“We leave her and blow the building anyway. Don’t tell me you’re not tempted.”
Dark anger flickered for a moment in his eyes, then slowly dissipated. “And then what happens?”
“We go home. Wherever that is.”
“We?” His pulse throbbed in his throat.
The query hung between them. The longer he didn’t speak, the more she wondered what he expected her to say. “Yes, we,” she finally said, just to break the silence. “What was the point of finding me if you didn’t expect me to stay?”
“You’re the one who said I didn’t have a wife.”
“You don’t have the woman you knew. You have me.”
“That’s all I’ve wanted. You’re all I’ve ever wanted.”
