Chapter 26

A sharp knock on the door drove his heart to his throat. His first thought was Guy, and fear made his pulse jump. Phone calls and visitors after midnight were never a good thing. Nobody called or visited after midnight just to chat. Every life changing conversation he ever had had come between the hours of twelve and six. His fingers were shaking uncontrollably by the time he reached the door.

“Oh, my God,” Dane blurted when he opened the door. “What are you doing here?”

Guy frowned. “Are you okay?”

“No…yes. I’m fine. Are you okay? How did you get here?”

“Rick drove me.”

“It’s like, one in the morning. Is he waiting for you?”

“He wouldn’t. I’m sorry it’s so late, but it took me a long time to build up the courage to come here.”

“Courage?”
