Chapter 30

He was standing on a precipice, and he knew it. He wanted to believe Guy’s silent conviction that everything would be right between them again, but the more pragmatic part of him knew it was just a silly fantasy. Even if Guy behaved as though it was already a done deal, and everything would be back to normal soon.

But the precipice hadn’t gone away. He thought he heard once that people in accidents were injured when they braced for the impact. That the tension in their bodies made everything worse. The more he tried to brace himself for the inevitable crash, the more he believed that fact.

The crash happened exactly as Dane had imagined it would. Dane used the key he still had to open Guy’s door, and Guy wasn’t smiling.
