After about a half an hour of mostly bad performances, Jeremy’s name was called.
“Go get ‘em, stud!” I yelled as he jumped on stage to sing “Eye of the Tiger” with the band. It wasn’t the best singing performance I’d ever heard, but he was very enthusiastic and having a great time camping it up. The crowd and I loved it.
When he came off the stage to friendly applause, I hugged him. “You’re not that bad,” I said.
He laughed. “Don’t lie. I know I can’t hold a tune, but I have fun tryin’.”
“That’s fine with me.” I kissed his cheek.
About an hour later, my name was called. Jeremy pushed me toward the stage and yelled, ‘Bring ‘em to their knees, sugar!”
