“Whatever. Look, I don’t have time for this nonsense. Get out of the car, right now.” I tried to shake him off, but Rodney wouldn’t budge, gripping my wrist even tighter than before.

“Come on, Royce. I said I was sorry. Yes, it’s true. I hate Thad. I hate what he does to you, and I wish you could see that, but you’re determined to marry the guy, so fine. Look, it’s one of my duties as best man to make sure you get drunk the night before you tie the knot. Didn’t you just tell me I needed to do things by the book? Well, this is in the book. Even at his worst, I was never been able to deny Rodney anything, which got us into a lot of trouble over the years before I met Thad. I would look into those pretty brown eyes and just give in.
