“Okay, hon. Try to get some sleep.” He kissed me on the forehead then turned off the lamp
“Rod?” I called out.
“Yeah, hon?”
“I’ve been a shit to you lately, and I’m sorry. I’m glad you were with me tonight. Thank you.”
“I would do anything for you, love. Have a good night.” I listened as Rodney walked down the hall toward his bedroom. Exhausted, I fell into an uneasy sleep.

I awoke late on Saturday morning with a headache. It took me a minute before I realized I was on the couch in Rodney’s house. And then it all came back to me. The rehearsal, the drinking, the betrayal.
“Royce, baby. You awake?” I felt Rodney move my legs a little so he could sit beside me, his warm hand rubbing my back.
“Yeah, I am, but I don’t want to be. God, my head hurts,” I said, my voice husky. My teeth felt gross. With a sigh, I turned over to face him. “I need to make some phone calls, and then I gotta get my stuff out of Thad’s house.” Just saying his name made my head pound even more.
