Chapter 29

“I’m with you on that,” Mike replied dryly, the ache in his chest reminding him yet again why he always wore his while out on a case.

By the time he got home, Mike was definitely ready to call it a night. He showered, took his pain meds, and crawled into bed—trying to find a comfortable sleeping position. He finally did, and then reminded himself to call Sage in the morning. He fell asleep with a smile on his face as he thought about the man who was somehow becoming very important to him. 8

Mike was up and moving at ten the next morning. Painfully until he popped his pills and they took effect, but still moving. He made breakfast then called Sage to set up a meeting with Brody.

“How are we going to manage that?” Sage asked. “You leave for work before I get home.”

“Well, hmm. At your office? If you’re not too busy, that is.”

Sage chucked. “I think I can fit you in. Say, sometime after two. I have to visit with a client at his house at noon.”

“Two works.”
