Chapter 36

“Damn, this brings back memories,” Brody said. “I even know some of the guys. Not all of them. There are a lot of faces I don’t recognize.”

“You’re getting old and senile,” Jon told him, ducking away when Brody feinted a hit at him.

Sage asked the desk sergeant to let Mike know he was there. Moments later Mike came down to take him up to the lieutenant’s office.

After introductions were performed, Price asked Sage, his skepticism showing, “Is Detective Ellis here?”

“Yes, sir,” Sage replied. “I understand why you’re doubtful about this whole thing. Mike was at first, as I’m certain he’s told you. The easiest way to prove I’m telling the truth is to ask a question that only he can answer. Something even Mike wouldn’t know.”

Price nodded. For a long moment he was silent before he said, “Brody, you were assigned to work a double homicide a month after you made detective. You came to me, asking if I could put another detective on the case. Why?”
