Chapter 37

When Sage arrived, he immediately saw Barnes’ ghost hovering over the crime scene. “I’m here to help you,” Sage told the ghost quietly, once he’d distanced himself from the rest of the people investigating the scene.

Barnes was obviously confused by the fact Sage could see him. “I’m…” He pointed to his body, lying on the floor of the garage. “I’m dead, aren’t I?” he said angrily.

“Yes,” Sage replied. “I’m sorry. I’m here to help, if I can.”

“He is,” Brody said, joining them.

“You…you’re dead, too,” Barnes said.

“Unfortunately. Now, I’m working with him.” He nodded toward Sage. “He’s alive, but he can see us. Like he said, he wants to help.”

“Oh.” Barnes turned to look at his body again, shuddering.

“It’s okay,” Brody said compassionately, touching Barnes’ shoulder. “Well, not okay that you’re dead, but there’s nothing we can do about it now. Do you have any idea who killed you?”
