Chapter 49

We arrived in the theater’s parking lot just as Sage was getting out of his car. “Mike’s on his way,” he informed us, seconds before the detective pulled into the lot.

“They’re here?” Mike asked Sage.

“Yep. In all their glory.”

Brody snorted. “Not sure glory describes us.” Sage didn’t bother to repeat what he’d said to Mike.

“Good,” Mike said. “Okay, here’s the battle plan. I’m going to introduce Sage as a detective who’s working with me, now that we’ve determined Tonio’s death was a murder. Since Sage can hardly repeat anything you tell him, Tonio, we’re going to use this.” He handed Sage an electronic tablet which came with a pen for writing on it. “To all intents and purposes, as far as anyone watching is concerned, he’s taking notes on the interviews, and showing them to me when necessary.”

“Why this way, rather than a pad and pencil?” Brody asked. Sage quickly wrote what he’d said, handing the pad to Mike, commenting, “Practicing,” as he did.
