Chapter 15

Pointing her fork in Magnum’s direction, Willa asks him, “You by chance weren’t the other wrestler were you?”

Silence settles around the dining room table. Awkwardness. They would hear a feather land on the floor; this is how quiet it turns.

Eventually Sandy shakes his head and responds to Willa’s questions with, “No. Magnum didn’t pull Hank away from me. It was a wrestler by the name of Tito. Tito Bandella. A Latino man from Brazil.”

“Good to know. Close call,” Bobo says. “I wouldn’t know how to respond if it ended up being Magnum who broke up Sandy’s wedding.”

Jonah guesses that Willa might just feel uncomfortable with the topic of Hank Werton and Tito Bandella because she comes full circle and asks him again, “What was all the screaming about upstairs between you and Bobo?”

He waves his fork in her direction and shakes his head. “Nothing. Nothing at all. Besides, that’s old news now. We’ve moved on.”

“Whatever,” she whispers.
