Chapter 5

The pod was barely large enough to contain him. Once the lid came down, locking him in, he was trapped. Anything could happen. The electronics could fail, killing him. The space shuttle could malfunction. The whole lot of them could end up lost in space. And the guards—how would they amuse themselves on the long journey? What sort of sick, perverted tortures could they inflict upon their charges?

Although he hadn’t eaten much of the breakfast porridge, Taar could feel the sharp sting of vomit hit the back of his throat. He closed his eyes and swallowed it down, a wave of dread washing through him as he listened to the hissing of the lid being hermetically sealed.
