Chapter 54

“I know it’s bitter. I added some honey and tried a few spells, but it’s still bitter. Just drink up,” Kathleen said as they drained their cups. ‘Now, eat.”

“You can sleep in my room, Dr. Melloy. There’s a private bathroom in there,” Charley said after inhaling his sandwich. “I’ll put an air mattress down in here. Jamey, you can take the couch, I’ll get you a sleeping bag, and Henry, you can stay in Al’s room.”

Henry wanted to kiss Jamey and take him into Al’s bed, but he did neither. He was glad Jamey had let him squeeze his hand. Holding on to the comfort of that touch, Henry curled up instead with his raven perched above his head, toc-toc-toc into his ear, sounds sinking into his brain. Henry’s dreaming shifted then, between wolf and boy. The wolf dreamed of running, running, running; the boy, of sex and love and Jamey and green shadows and Watchers. The boy dreamed of looking for his mother.
