Chapter 37

“It’s just the impression he makes,” I said. “That’s why he has such success in business, but when it comes to making friends, Nick really struggles sometimes. People shy away from him. Or they judge him. Misunderstand him.” I stood and grabbed the bottle of wine. “He’s actually really modest and loves to hear people’s thoughts on things. He’s a great listener, you’ll see.”

“You really adore this man, don’t you?” Myles asked, standing. I couldn’t read the expression on his face. Sadness or seriousness?

“Uh, well, yeah,” I said, laughing nervously, aware of the tension in the room.

Myles tipped his head. He stared at me for a few long seconds and then finally said, “I just wanna hang out with you for a bit. Just you and me.”

I still don’t understand why he’s so reluctant to spend time with Nick and I together. It irks me a little, but this afternoon, I decided to let it go. “What do you wanna do then?”

“Do you know a lot about art and stuff?”
