Chapter 42

“I’m good,” Pansy said.

“So, where’s Big A?” CJ asked. “Hiding behind the tree?”

“Oh.” My excitement faded. For a moment, I thought we’d made it back to Earth. Even without the Book of Shadows in tow, that would have been amazeballs. “We, um, seem to have come back to the last place you saw—you sensed Artemis.” We were at the apple tree. “We’re still where we live, now, right?”

“I’m pretty sure.” Pansy looked around. “I am sure.”

“Yo, Arty!”

It was worth a shot. Had CJ not called out, I might have. No one answered, though. “Do you feel him?” I asked.

“You felt him right good, din’t ya?”

“CJ…”

“No, Mr. Brennington, sir, I don’t feel him.”

“Sorry. I don’t mean to be a buzz kill.”

“S’okay. You can’t help it.”

I decided to let that go. “Maybe we should head back to my place and try again.”
