Chapter 9

When the door opened again, it was an officer telling him there were some people who wanted to see him. He wondered who they might be.

“So you feel the need to see me, to gloat in my face, instead of just sending a lawyer,” Luke said icily when he saw who they were: Alex’s parents.

Mrs. Parker dashed to him and took hold of both of his hands, startling Luke.

“Mr. Garrett, thank you for bringing our son back,” she said, near tears. “We were very worried.”

Luke hesitated. He had not wanted to hurt her. His problem was with her husband. He held her hands.

“Mrs. Parker, I didn’t want to hurt your son. I took him just for, well, a kind of collateral.”

“We could’ve just talked instead of you doing all this,” Alex’s dad said, waving his hand around. He was still not sitting down and Luke hated it. Parker’s sheer arrogance was one of the reasons why Luke had come to the decision to kidnap his son. Parker needed to learn a lesson.
