Shh, shh. It was a whisper in my mind as he angled himself over onto his back and buried his fingers in the fur of my ruff. Free me. He extended his hands, and again my jaws snapped shut, leaving the links that joined the handcuffs to dangle uselessly. Gently I licked the blood that still oozed sluggishly from his fingertips. Thank you. He wound his fingers around my neck and urged me up onto his body. Carefully I placed my paws on either side of him and settled myself along the soft skin of his torso. I would watch over him as I had often done for my siblings.
